Large Pores Treatment

Pores provide oil to moisture, soften and hydrate the skin. This is the reason why pores are necessary for a healthy skin. When pores are opened, enlarged, infected and clogged up, the pores become prominent. It is impossible to reduce the size of large pores but there are several ways to make them less obvious.

Pores are primarily openings of hair follicle for oil glands to lubricate the surface of the skin. Without pores, our skin will not ‘breathe’ as there won’t be any openings for the oil glands to protect out skin.

Causes of Large Pores

  • Genetics and Age

Genetics and age are two chief reasons for the existence of large pores. If one has thick and oily skin, he will have larger pores naturally. In addition, aging that leads to reduced skin elasticity and sun damage can cause pores to enlarge. When the skin thickens, tiny cells will gather adjacent to the pores and thus make the pores look bigger. Overtime skin cells lose their stretch and lead to enlarged pores.

  • Blackheads and Excessive Oil Secretion

Large pores can be a cause of blackheads too as pores are clogged with bacteria or dirt, the oil will build up within the pore causing the pore to dilate. Moreover, when there are excessive oil secretions from sebaceous glands, it may also create clogged pores.

  • Gender

Dilated pores have been a concern for most women, despite their ages and pose more distress on women who have oily or combination skin. These pores gradually get bigger and easily clogged if one does not take good care of their skins.

Pores that are clogged become pimples, blackheads and are discolored and produce excessive sebum. So it is crucial one treats the pores as early as possible or else it will look worse when they are larger. More so, it is a well-known fact that men have larger pores than women. These pores appear on the T-zone which covers the area of the forehead and the bridge of the nose.

  • Makeup and Cosmetics

There are certain face scrubs and cosmetics that can be too heavy for your face, and this will lead to reduced skin elasticity and created open pores. Moreover, using too much makeup can also create clogged pores as it attracts dirt and oil, which leads to an increased shine in the pores.

Ways to Reduce Large Pores

  • Vitamin C and Retinol

One way to reduce the appearance of large pores is to cleanse the debris, bacteria and excess oil of the face with face wash that has vitamin C and retinol. However, too strong a medication will only strip the skin of natural moisture and will be harsh to the skin. Vitamin C and retinol on the other hand will increase collage and the elasticity of the skin other than releasing the dirt and oil.

  • Proper Exfoliation

Exfoliation too can reduce the looks of large pores and this can be achieved by using scrubs or undergo Microdermabrasion treatments. Microdermabrasion is a facial treatment that scrubs off the dead layer of the skin gently and reveals healthier and softer skin beneath it. This treatment rejuvenates the skin and can shrink the pores and reduce their size by stimulating collagen production.

Exfoliating makes pores less noticeable. To achieve your desired results, you need to exfoliate safely without damaging your skin. However, if you feel uncomfortable or uncertain about the decision, you may visit a dermatologist for inquiries and even for a personal exfoliation on your visit.

  • Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels also work similarly with Microdermabrasion treatment and this method has Trichloreacetic acid (TCA) which is very suitable for enlarged pores. The chemical penetrates into the skin and eliminate damaged layers of the skin which allow new cells to develop.

  • Laser Resurfacing

Another method of treating enlarged pores efficiently is Laser Resurfacing, which not only treat large pores but also wrinkles and scars. This procedure can tone and improve the elasticity of the skin by building collagen and elastin.

  • Facial Treatment

Deep pore cleansing treatment is a facial treatment that has exfoliation, toning, extractions, cleansing and moisturising. This treatment is best used during puberty phase and it includes balancing of sebum production, prevents clogging of pores and thus promotes new cells to grow. However, one should seek treatment from beauticians and dermatologists to attain great results.

  • Vitamin A

Vitamin A, AHAs and BHAs can be added into everyday skin routine to unclog pores and hasten the growth of new cells.

  • Refining Products

There are other methods which can be used at home by using products that contain agents that can shrink the pores. Refining products are essential to reduce the size of the large pores and can be found in moisturisers that contain vitamins and retinol.

  • Tightening Masks

There are tightening masks that can be used weekly to control the oil production and these masks can cleanse pores and remove impurities.

  • Proper Hygiene

It’s a necessity to wash your face regularly, especially when you put a lot of products on your face. Doing otherwise will lead you to suffer from enlarged pores. More specifically, it is recommended to gently cleanse your face twice a day with warm water to prevent clogged pores and reduce oiliness.

Large Pore Treatment in Singapore

One of the common methods of treating large pores in Singapore is through the use of Fractional CO2 Laser. This is a scientifically-proven method of treating acne scars, which involves laser treatment that pinpoints areas of the skin to stimulate collagen growth.

A powerful laser beam is administered into deep layers of skin to stimulate the repairment and regeneration of new skin cells. As a result, you’ll have a renewed skin with an appearance of smaller pores on the skin.

As of today, many clinics and dermatologists are applying this method as part of their specialties in facial skincare. Along with this, other pore size reduction techniques involve Pico Laser, Secret RF, Viva, and Rejuran.
